greetings’ new single and a whole bunch of news from funnybone records

i’m late to the party!  last month, i cracked wise about how greetings (aka: daniel fondue) was like your favorite auntie, checking in on you throughout the summer.  last week, greetings released “falling”, the july single.  you can check it out here on bandcamp (or stream below).  greetings recently played a show at mac 650 last week — and if you didn’t get to see it (in person or any of the videos circulating on instagram of the performance), then i’m legitimately sorry for you dude.  but don’t worry because you can hear “falling”, and the other summer singles on most streaming platforms.

“falling” is a definite change of pace from june’s “siccem”, making it the fourth in a row of very diverse songs that are all unified by a flair for psychedelic production.  the song probably has the most in common with “untitled one”, not just because they both feature frequent collaborator maebe on backing vocals, but because their slow, romantic grooves.  lyrically, the two form a pair of short stories — the blossoming love that began in “untitled one” has moved from infatuation to a version of domestic romance.  the part that sticks with me the most is the closing lines: “i just might / cook you breakfast in the night / now that i can’t forget”.  the four singles together showcase a fantastic array of talent and would make a pretty good EP if they were all bundled together.  i’m just thinking out loud here, don’t mind me.  you could even call it “Falling Untitled One KIE Siccem”, or “FUKS” for short.  tell me you wouldn’t buy “greetings f.u.k.s.“.

and just a shout-out to the funnybone records monthly newsletter. if you aren’t subscribed, then you’re missing out on a convenient roundup of great connecticut music news. i’ll highlight two things that are mentioned there (although all of it is worth a read!).

pleasuremad debuted a song at mac 650 during the evelyn gray let the flower grow release show a few weeks ago. luckily, my emu is emo — one of my favorite music bloggers — captured the performance and uploaded it to youtube. you can check it out below! pleasuremad’s performance was absolutely enrapturing; listen to their voice! those brilliant pop melodies! i believe “the stride” was introduced as a song about jack riley’s pleasant living situation, remarking that the song was borne out of a love for their roommates.

and hey, before i let you go, i want to tell you about the upcoming snowpiler / donnie alexzander tour. both of those bands are terrific: snowpiler is a hard-rocking, but accessible, math rock band, and donnie alexzander is a cool, melancholy grunge-rock band. they’re playing in bloomfield on 8/9, in allston ma on 8/10, and in brooklyn ny on 8/11. the two make a great pairing, and if you’re interested, come see them off at the slum house on 8/9. it’ll be a cool tour kick-off, and you are invited. yes you. ok see you there. bye.
