Space Camp have officially announced their new album, Overjoyed in this World, and as you can tell by the title and album art, it is a serene, beautiful folk record.  oh, what’s that?  my intern is telling me that Overjoyed in this World is decidely not a folk record, but chances are you already knew that if you’ve heard any three-second stretch of Space Camp’s music.  so what is it?  well, i have no fucking idea, and that’s what i’ve always loved about Space Camp’s music.  maybe it’s experimental hardcore.  maybe it’s turbulent jazz metal.  maybe it’s neoclassicist composition thrown through a digital meat-grinder.

this merciless new album features guest spots from Oliva West (Edge Petal Burn), Clara Zornado (Lady Queen Paradise, but real Space Camp-heads already know), and Tyler Trelease (of [REDACTED]).  it was recorded at Machines with Magnets — the haunted studio that also brought you that Daughters album you love so much and killer records by Lightning Bolt and The Body.

Overjoyed in this World comes out march 6th on Redscroll Records, the same good folks that brought you the fantastic Reduction Plan album, new wonderful Perennial cassette, and many other CT music releases.  you can pre-order it now on the Space Camp bandcamp or at the Redscroll headquarters.  it comes in every format you want — and the format i want?  i’m grabbing that granny-smith-apple vinyl thank you very much.

along with the album announcement (which premiered on Stereogum!!), Sam and June have released the first single “Fifth Grade Orchiectomy”, which should give naive listeners an idea of what’s in store for them. my only advice? don’t google what a fifth grade orchiectomy is on your workplace computer. and also before i go: if anyone is hiring, hit me ASAP because i may not be working at my current job for much longer. thanks Space Camp.
