We made an egregious error in yesterday’s Bark List.  That’s right, Connecticut.  I let you down, and I’m sorry about that.  What was the issue?  I totally missed out on The Refectory’s album announcement and new video!  The Refectory — good people making good music — announced their first album since 2017 (selftitled), Noise Machine Repeater with a video for “Noise Machine”, filmed in their Axe Eater studio.  Check it out below!

The Refectory is Robbie Vozza* (low-end / hollering), Jonathan DeCarlo (noodling / riffs), and Nick Restivo (boom crash tap).  Everything the band does is worth a moment of your time — we love the attention they give their music and live shows.  The musicianship is immaculate, the transitions within songs (and even between songs!) are exciting, and the visual component of the music, ranging from lighting choices in live shows to the eye-catching album artwork, are enough to make any College Street band look away in shame.  My only issue with the new album, and in particular the new song, is that it cuts away after 4 minutes with a “To Be Continued” title card.  You’re telling me that this is just the first half?  What is this an Avengers movie?

Noise Machine Repeater was recorded by the band’s very own Jonathan DeCarlo and mastered by Jay Maas. The album was mixed by Maas, Dave Alcan, and Nick Cates, and the artwork [see below] is by Brian DiCrescenzo, who used to pound skins in the band at one point. Noise Machine Repeater will be released on cassette through Choke Artist Records (the same folks that brought you The Most’s new record) on 9/17. Perhaps unsurprisingly, “9/17” is also the time signature of the breakdown on “Noise Machine”.

The Refectory will be launching Noise Machine Repeater on 9/16, the night before the album drops online, at The Beeracks in East Haven with Splund (NJ), Pulsr, and Doom Beach.

Listen to the song below and follow the band on Instagram / Facebook / their very cool website. You can pre-order the cassette through Choke Artist Records HERE.

The promo pic embedded at the top of this page shows Robbie with a full beard. For the video of “Noise Machine”, Robbie took off the beard for filming.
