queen moo are back and have still lost their minds (here’s the new song + video to prove it)

hartford weirdos queen moo are back with a new song, new music video, and new album. if that sounds like a surprise… it is! the new album is called faint sounds of us hanging out and it’ll be here friday, july 5. the band posted a music video for opening track “gooey functions” today, and it is wild. check it out below, as the band take various liberties with hartford’s Wherehouse performance space and fire code.

last friday, co-vocalist and guitarist john rule posted an instagram story briefly explaining that there would be new music the next week. that was the first update we’ve gotten from queen moo since… january or december? well, friends: the record is done. and it’ll be here by friday. the band are handling the album completely independently. before this record, the band released two full-length records: mean well (2017) and queen moo (2015), and both are required-listening. the band writes kinda-punk-infused-americana stuff, and while they are big on melody, they are not big on repeating themselves, which leads to some interesting and cool song structures. the new song, “gooey functions”, is a piano ballad featuring a softly-crooning kevin o’donnell, who also produced faint sounds of us hanging out.

there are no live shows currently on the books for the band, but in their announcement, they hinted at an august release show. in july, john rule will be on the road with crag mask and early lover of mankind, so while there are no announced dates yet, keep your eyes open for live show announcements later in the year. you know where to find those.

oh, and we’ll probably be treated to a zanders album this year too if we’re lucky. it is a good time for connecticut music, dear reader.

here’s the full announcement:

5th. It will be available for name your own price on bandcamp and available on all streaming services.

Here is the first track on the album, “Gooey Functions”. The title was graciously lent to us by Will Rutledge of Horror Movie Marathon who will be performing at our release show this August (details TBA). The video was done by Rj LaRussa and assorted Wherehouse crew. Special thanks to Tom Foran for helping us get messy and for constructing the set.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to sharing Faint Sounds Of Us Hanging Out with you later this week.

Best,
QM
