crag mask soar / fly / take off or other aviation puns in “secret plane”

it is a cruel thing crag mask have done: released two excellent singles more than a month ahead of their album. what are we supposed to do? wait? not in this economy! following up the excellent “stainer”, crag mask released “secret plane” yesterday, and it’s the loud, heavy, melodic song you’d hope it would be. in fact, “secret plane” maintains such a consistent tone that it is deceptively dynamic; guitar riffs slowly mutate into new sections, calm bars precede the chorus, and time signatures get all knotted up. but the best part is that all of this may pass you by: on its surface, it’s a crowd-pleasing rock song. and drummer jason rule mentioned on instagram that this song was a one-take recording on drums — whoa.

their second record, bend is out july 12, but you should probably pre-order it right now. you’re not a true nutmegger if you don’t. the record follows 2017’s loom, and it was recorded by bassist phil lord.  a tour is sure to follow, so keep your eyes peeled — this is a loud, crushing experience you will not want to miss.
