oh my god. in the past half-week there have been so many album announcements that i want to tell you about. under normal circumstances, each of these records would deserve their own post, but i just don’t have the time / schedule to post them all separate. so, i invite you, dear reader, to check out all of these album announcements! i’ll list them in alphabetical order, tell you a bit about why i’m excited for the album, and give you a link to where you can get your pre-order (or order, if you are reading this in the future).

eel people — a posh & destructive cycle
releases on 8/1/2019
why i’m excited: simply put, the early single “i thought i was misunderstood (but i misunderstood)” is a killer track. it has a lovely melody, a guitar line that will have you break out your air-guitar, and lyrics that are specific and relatable. this record will be the third released in the span of a year(!), making eel people similar in more ways than just sound to car seat headrest.

he was an artist, she was a carpenter — i’ll never be as happy as i was last summer.
releases on 8/2/2019
why i’m excited: this western-massachusetts emo band has deep roots in connecticut. tom fisher and jackson donovan have previewed “ghostfreehomes.com”, a burst of exhausted emotion. the centerpiece lyric “i’m sorry i just don’t want to talk / about high school anymore” is what you’d call a “big fucken mood”.

the inside out — i want to wake up where you are
releases on 7/19/2019
why i’m excited: while i don’t believe the band have officially posted their bandcamp page yet, they let me preview their single “don’t stop”. it’s a slick, muscular track that has a heavy emphasis on melody. the nice blend of indie rock and emo will score big with new listeners when that single is released on 7/12.

kidnapped — collected works [2017 – 2019]
releases on 7/19/2019
why i’m excited: i’ll be real with you for a second — i’m not as big of a metalhead as i used to be. but connecticut’s redscroll records is coming out of their self-imposed hiatus to release this album, which collects kidnapped’s five cassettes onto one outrageously raw and heavy LP. this is 48 songs of abrasion and head-banging disrepute.

matt falkowski — bad posture
releases on 7/11/2019
why i’m excited: i’ve written about “coffee”, the first single released ahead of falkowski’s upcoming record. what i like about falkowski’s songwriting is how urgent it all feels, as if they are on stage and were suddenly told “hey, you’ve only got time for one more, so make this one count.” and if “coffee” is any indication, the record will be a kick in the pants.

split the check — the hole demos
releases on 7/2/2019
why i’m excited: this one is already out! on their 20th birthday, split the check decided to release a collection of demos they were sitting on. it felt like a sudden decision, a spontaneous move that feels like the start of a creative surge. these demos are guitar-jams over programmed drum loops, and there’s a lot of variety in these 10 songs. after their show at the Break Even Pride show in Middletown, this is just the beginning.
