the running joke about fairfield county is that it’s more of a part of new york than connecticut; even craigslist shows it in the “new york” pages.  so even though harrison lipton is from fairfield county, and he plays most of his shows in brooklyn these days, he’s still a nutmegger in my book.  lipton fronts harrison lipton (the band) along with noah ross (guitars and synths), ian bakerman (bass), and marco gill (drums).  together, they craft dreamy soft-rock, or sensitive alt-r&b, depending on how you look at it.  today, they debut their new single “no good at goodbyes”.

“no good at goodbyes” is the second single lipton has released so far in 2019.  the first, “cannonball”, premiered in feburary with contributions from quelle rox and huck.  “no good at goodbyes” is a slight departure from the sounds of “cannonball” and lipton’s debut album loveliness.  the biggest change is that this song could easily pass as a pop song; lipton’s music has also been melody-conscious, but never before has his melodies been so prominent and strong, especially in this song’s chorus.  “no good at goodbyes” retains lipton’s deft touch, but with its strong hooks and catchy grooves, it is easy to imagine this song largely expanding the group’s audiences.

update: lipton has uploaded a music video for “no good at goodbyes” that you can find at his instagram. follow harrison lipton on instagram or facebook for updates, including upcoming music and shows.  the band are scheduled for two shows in the near-future, with one at baby’s all right on august 27, and another at elsewhere on september 19 (a birthday show!).
