there have been clues, and there have been hints: new music was coming from Perennial, and it was coming soon.  first in a Fly on the Call podcast episode, the band mentioned that an EP would precede their follow-up LP.  and then again on a recent Redscroll Records podcast episode, Redscroll mentioned that a certain flower-related band would be releasing something soon.  if you were getting out your red twine, prepared to link the clues, you’re too late — the announcement is here!

local favorite Perennial will be releasing their new EP, Food For Hornets on December 13, 2019.

you can pre-order the cassette or digital release through their bandcamp or directly through Redscroll Records’ storefront.  if you’ve caught a Perennial live show recently, “Food For Hornets” should be familiar to you.  the tightly-wound, explosive track usually comes after a (rare) pause for silence in the band’s set.  it’s a swift kick to the jaw, with the band escalating everything you liked about their music.  the pummeling lasts for a solid minute, so the remaining 40 seconds of music — swells of volume and feedback — effectively bring you back to earth.  check out the song below.

the Food For Hornets EP was recorded and produced by Chris Teti (of The World Is A Beautiful Place) at Silver Bullet Studios. and if you are a ctverses superfan, you already knew this because they teased details about those sessions in our first interview! this is the first new music since 2017’s Symmetry of Autumn Leaves and 2019’s split EP with Mineva.

if you’re keeping along at home, this marks another stellar release for Redscroll Records, who have released albums from Kidnapped, Reduction Plan, and Phemale. and you can expect even more in 2020, with albums from Perennial, Space Camp, and Mineva, in the pipeline. holy shit.
