while you were waiting outside of a Target at 5AM, i was listening to The Right Offs’ new EP

“do you think they’ll still have those 800-thread-count sheets left?” you whispered to your mom.  she paused, looked down at the Target advertisement for black friday door-buster deals, “it says ‘while supplies last’, but we got here early, so we should be good.”  you look over her shoulder and see the many dozens of people in line in front of you.  cold and miserable, you pray to your own wicked god that those customers weren’t also there for the 800-thread-count sheets.

that’s what you were doing while i was dancing around in my underwear to The Right Offs’ new EP, Fake Adjustments.

Fake Adjustments launched on bandcamp last week, and yesterday (black friday) marked the streaming debut, premiering on spotify, apple music, and that other one that jay z owns. as we start the slippery slide into a connecticut winter, Fake Adjustments is the aural space heater that will keep you warm and keep you moving. my hands were freezing numb, so i held them up to a set of headphones playing “Amen The Repeater” (my favorite track of the entire lot), and within seconds they were warm again.

if you aren’t so familiar with The Right Offs, they are a New Haven trio that sling out deliriously fun rock-n-roll. you know the kind — slightly old school, no frills, impossible to imagine them rehearing this stuff in casual street wear. the band make a seemingly effortless transition from the stage to the studio, where these songs capture the same rambunctious melody-making as their infamous live sets. here’s an interview with the band, where they describe their writing and recording process for these new songs.

Fake Adjustments is the second EP in a planned trilogy of smaller releases, which will culminate in an upcoming full-length record next year. if you missed last year’s Fire in a Theatre, you can find it on bandcamp, along with their debut album Quiet Down.
