if you came across this blog, then you love at least one musician / band on funnybone records. the hartford-based label has curated an impressive roster of (mostly) connecticut artists, spanning a wide variety of styles and genres. and if you don’t want to take my word on this, funnybone records has created a compilation to commemorate their 2-year anniversary. the compilation, House Sounds, will release on september 15th on cassette, bandcamp, and CD. or, you can — and don’t go around telling this to just everybody — you can get the compilation early at the Live from the Lawn event at the university of hartford.
but okay bob, you tell me, this compilation sounds great. i can’t wait to hear these dozen songs. and i snort and say a dozen! buster, we are dealing with one score songs. one score! that’s twenty songs for those of you truants in the audience. you can order it here: bandcamp link.
here’s the complete list with some scattered commentary:
- “Theme for Ame” – Mild Monk
- “Mx. Machete” – Bebé Machete
- “Gloves” – Chad Browne-Springer; this track just came out last week! it might one of my favorite songs by C B-S.
- “No Harm” – Pearl Sugar; this seems to be a new track, or at least a new recording of a beloved song.
- “Bad Self” – Glambat; every time i have seen Glambat play this song, at least one person in the audience has sang along with it.
- “All That” – Kelly Quigley
- “kitchen beat” – Pleasuremad; this seems to be a new one! could it be the track they previewed at mac650 for the Evelyn Gray show?
- “Nathan For You” – Empathy Beam
- “Fill My Heart” – Eddie Jowels; a new song, soon to be released (this week, i think?).
- “new moon” – waveform*; wait a dang second. waveform* have a song title that is more than just 1-word long?! (yea i know “tell me” is two words, but that was on the split, and not an album.)
- “Spirit Mind (TLK2YA)” – Greetings; you can hear this one right now! it’s the final summer single from greetings.
- “Falling Asleep to Your Parents Watching TV” – Samuel Sandoval; i could be wrong, but i think this is one of the tracks that were previously only available in physical form if you were lucky (as a hidden track on Tupper).
- “Paraglider” – Namesake
- “Needle, Red Thread” – Josh Pavel
- “Ash” – Melaina Kol; i don’t believe they are part of the funnybone roster formally, but they’ve played with waveform* a lot in the past.
- “Revolution” – King Bongo; this looks like a new song, and not even one of the new ones that was previous previewed in that zh1 session!
- “Upstairs” – Early Lover of Mankind
- “The Black and The Red” – Donnie Alexzander; one of my favorite DA songs!
- “Crest” – Snowpiler; you can find this one on the Snowpiler / Glambat split. it’s great.
- “Without a Mast” – Figurine
