portapotties? where we are going, we won’t need portapotties: couchella festival 2020 and funnybone records’ new “(don’t) get to the gig” series

continuing in our “living in quarantine sucks” coverage, we want to tell you about two really exciting events. both are on instagram: one is a music festival, and the other is a weekly series.

Couchella 2020 is a day-long ct music festival on May 3 starting at 3PM! the premise is simple: connecticut artists playing from their couch, directly to you, the listener! it’s basically the exact same thing as a normal festival, except that it smells better, has fewer creepy men standing too close to you in the audience, and much less drugs. actually, some of that stuff may still be true depending on who you live with. anyways, the line-up features some truly great local emo bands: Say What You Will, Cinema Stare, Night Crew, Sunday Morning, Cafe Pizzeria, Blood Red/Blue, Gvrden, Sunday Morning, and Mighty Tortuga! I saved the Tortugas last because this show shindig was their invention. huge thank you to Mighty Tortuga for coordinating all of this when life objectively sucks right now.

the other thing i will say about this is that ct verses is a sponsor of Couchella 2020, which means i will have a 10 minute commercial break midway through the festival. no one knows what i have planned, and i’m going to keep that totally under wraps. you’ll have to tune in to find out!

the other thing i want — no, need — to tell you about is the new live series (Don’t) Get To The Gig, hosted by Funnybone Records. each and every Thursday night at 8pm, the good folx at Funnybone will be putting together a set of intimate performances. attendance is free, obviously, but the label will be accepting donations for the non-profit First Book, who fights for making positive, quality educational opportunities for children. there has been a weekly-free-show-shaped hole in my heart since the last Manic Mondays at Cafe Nine show, and (Don’t) Get To The Gig really hits the spot. same it with me: three. band. bills. just jump on IG and tune in.

last week, (Don’t Get To The Gig) featured Bebe Machete, Joann Fabrix (who have a brand new album out now!), and Pearl Sugar. this week (Thursday 4/16), we’ve got Daniprobably, Luke Ellingson, and Vern Matz! you can tune in at 8pm. there’ll probably be some exciting news announced during that show, but i wouldn’t know anything about. if i don’t see you in the IG chat, then we are never speaking to each other again.
