gig of the week(end): the state house reopens with kal marks (ma), space camp, and them airs! (10/1)

Each week, we’ll plug one show that we excites us.  (We think every show posted on our Gig Calendar is worth checking out, but we wanted to spotlight one in particular).

This week’s Gig of the Week(end) is: Kal Marks, Space Camp, and Them Airs’ show on October 1 at the State House in New Haven. The price is $12 if you didn’t buy an advanced ticket. The doors open at 7PM (the show will start promptly at 8PM). The venue is all ages, and alcohol is only available for folks over 21. Importantly: to enter, you must bring proof of covid-19 vaccination or a recent negative test.

What’s the hype? The State House is reopening! That place is one of our favorite venues in Connecticut, so on one hand, we’re just happy to see them opening their doors once again. But on the other hand, this is a truly killer three-band bill. It’ll be loud, chaotic, weird, and loud. The last time Kal Marks came thru CT, it was at the Church (RIP) in Hamden, and they nearly tore the roof off the place. That was in support of their album Let the Shit House Burn Down, and they’ve released two albums since then (LITE and Broken Songs), and given the nature of those albums, I’m hyped to see what they sound like live. Space Camp was one of my final gigs before covid shut down everything in 2020, and they were releasing their incredible album Overjoyed in This World, an album I still return to on its glorious vinyl. This’ll be Daisy and June’s first show since then, and we are amped to see it. And gig-of-the-weekend repeat offenders Them Airs will probably go nuts on stage, Adam will go shirtless, and I’ll be googling who “Elliott Abrams” is after his name comes up in the stage banter. Come on, it’s gonna be great.

OK see you there!
