On this episode of our podcast, we talk with Laura Wolf! Laura is one of our all-time favs, and she just released a new beautiful EP, Artifacts. If you haven’t listened to her music before, she writes creative, angular glitchpop with her trusty cello and ableton production. In the summer of 2020, she began a song-a-day marathon, and it’s from those sessions that Artifacts began to come to its own. Laura finds a way to balance structure and spontaneity in her music — within any of her well-crafted verses, small improvised moments line the way.
We talk with Laura about her new music, how she re-arranges her songs for live settings, and what the other Laura Wolfs (Laura Wolves?) are up to these days. She’s thoughtful about her work, and we trace her path from starting in the classical music scene and finding her way to the Wherehouse in Hartford. I also spring a pop quiz on her, and we debate if there’s such a thing as a “bad word”.
