portrait party are 2 for 2, as they release their second single “saucebox”

there’s always some concern when you get a band with a great live show: will their live energy transfer successfully to a recording?  will what makes them good in person still be there when you’re streaming it off your phone?  if you haven’t gotten a chance to see portrait party live yet, i’d give them a solid recommendation.  even if their music — psychedelic jam — isn’t your cup of tea, it’s hard to sit through one of their songs without a big dumb smile on your face.  the trio, Jason LaPierre (vox / guitar), Chris Connelly (bass / backing vox), and Dan Deutsch (drums), are expert musicians, and they’re up there on stage having a blast playing their music.  the enjoyment — the love of the music — is infectious.  i think the last time i saw them live (stella blues in new haven) featured some drunk bastard shouting “madison square garden” several times throughout the night.  that dude had the time of his life, if he can remember it.

anyways, this is all just to say that portrait party have released their second single (the first being “underlying chaos”), and it is just as good as their live performances promise.  upbeat and thoughtful, the song showcases a little bit of everything portrait party are good at: excellent and precise musicianship, socially conscious lyrics, and a melody that will lodge itself right in your head.  alright fellas, enough games: it’s time to announce the debut ep!

check out the song below.
