waking up now releases a new single, “a pop tune”, announces new label

things are changing shape in the world of waking up now.  the prolific indie/emo project (self-described on instagram as “indie-twinkle daddies” and on bandcamp as “sad kid from ct”) have a handful of digital eps under their belts already, with their most recent — jazz corner — released earlier this year in april.  and some artists like to take a bit of a break after releasing something like that.  some artists.  but not waking up now.

waking up now has uploaded their next single, “a pop tune”, to bandcamp, available for you to stream/buy/download now!  it’s a track shows off the band’s dynamics: a mellow intro gives way to a jagged guitar rip, a start-and-stop collision.  and the heart-on-sleeve lyrics: “when i live / i am dreaming / this is how / i want to feel” are plainly put and powerful.

for all of you waking up now fans (you wakies), the song may be familiar.  it showed up on the project’s self-titled ep, but as a fairly rough demo.  that song, uploaded in april 2018, is downright small in comparison to the explosive nature of the 2019 recording.

waking up now is working with redtail records, label run out of the university of hartford.  and even though jazz corner just came out, the band is aiming to record a new full-length album in the fall with a new vocalist.  and if that wasn’t exciting enough for you, they’re gearing up to play a couple of shows (6/22/2019 and 8/17/2019), so clear your calendars.  that june date at c**** h**** is approaching fast, so be ready!
