fade in: ext.  downtown new haven, connecticut – night.

a shadow falls across a semi-lit sidewalk.  we hear an ambiguous mix of noises growing louder: an old dial-up modem, a heavy object falling into sticky mud, a Wilhelm scream, someone trying to make a smoothie out of duracell batteries.

cut to: a young twentysomething sitting on a bench, playing with their iphone.  this twentysomething has airpods in and doesn’t hear what we hear — the growing cybergrind sounds getting loud and louder, closer and closer.

cut to: we are directly in front of the shadowy figure now.  it is taking slow, shambling steps closer and closer to our perspective until it is gradually illuminated in the street light.  there it is, the noisecore project called chop chop chop chop chop chop chop, or “chop7times” as it is referred to in alleyway whispers.  it raises its clawed hand and reaches — reaches past us — towards the oblivious twentysomething.

fade to black.

all right gang, so i’m going to tell you about chop7times, who is an anonymous musician operating in new haven.  chop7times makes some incredibly gnarly, noisey music.  you can check out their first-released song, “cattle”, below, but i will warn that you it’s not for the squeamish.  in less than two minutes, chop7times works in two great melodies that are smothered in dystopian music and gnashing lyrics.  it’s the feel-good bop of the summer!  the song comes ahead of a debut ep titled extreme creep, which is probably also a good way to describe this wonderfully menacing single.  i’ll keep you updated about the details on that ep, but you can keep on chop7times-watch here:
