all riot just dropped a surprise ep — but ctscramble won’t tell you about it because he’s too modest

ctscramble covers an entire state’s music scene, and it’s been a huge inspiration/influence on the stuff you might come across on this blog here.  you already know all of this, though!  what you may not know is that the blog owner, Dan Osto, moonlights as half of All Riot, the punk-turned-electronica group.  and All Riot just released a surprise ep this past tuesday, but Dan is too modest to hype it up on his own blog, so i’m about to do it for him.

sometimes after a long day of blogging, Dan and I will leave our offices and meet at the company watercooler.  we talk a lot of shit about #brooklynmusic, and one of the things i’ve notice Dan say is that it sometimes feels like the BK scene love and listen to Radiohead up until Kid A.  and while that always felt like a fun joke, it’s an interesting comment after you listen to All Riot’s music.  up until a few years ago, they were a full-fledged punk band, carving out loud, melody-centered rock music.  and then they (Dan and Mitch Guerin) threw a curve ball, dropped the guitars, and picked up the synths and drum pads.  it was like if Radiohead went from Pablo HoneyThe Bends to Amnesiac.

but yeah, anyways, All Riot has new music!  and if i am being completely honest with you (and i always am, dear reader), EP 2 is even better than last year’s Boycott All Riot Vol. 1 EP.  the music is darker and denser; it is softly abstract in its gothic textures.  you can still hear the punk origins, particularly in Dan’s louder vocal moments, but All Riot still continues to change shape with each new release.

anyways, you really should check out EP 2 (see links below) because Dan is too humble/professional to brag about it on ctscramble!
