While we were on hiatus, Hero Magnus released her new EP, Make Me A Man.  It’s one of our favorite releases of 2021, so we had to talk to her about the inspiration behind the EP, balancing lyrical themes with melodies, and recording new music in L.A.  If you’re not familiar with her music yet, Hero Magnus moved to Connecticut for college and has been performing in the New Haven area for the past couple of years.  Her songs are inspired by hypothetical conversations, classic ideas, and classic conversations about hypothetical ideas.  But we love Make Me A Man for how quickly and sharply its lyrics cut and how easily you can sing along with it in your car.  I mean, uhh, if one were to try to sing very loud in their car, Make Me A Man would theoretically be a very good choice.

Our interview with Hero Magnus covers all of this and more, including the separation of the New Haven and Yale music scenes, music as a source of empathy, her work with Yale’s WYBC radio station, and how much of a hottie Socrates was in his prime.  You can find our podcast episode at any of the usual streaming platforms or at one of the embeds below!
