rewind the clock, back to 2017, and Laini and the Wildfire released wandering, an excellent collection of pop-forward piano-based rock music.  their music feels big, Laini’s voice is beautiful and take up every corner of the room when she sings.  seriously, if you haven’t heard wandering yet, go give yourself a treat and listen to it this evening.  preferably with the lights down a little bit with a glass of red wine.  that’s how i roll with it, at least, but if you want to substitute that for white claw, i won’t judge.

for the past few weeks, Laini and the Wildfire have teased their new single, “DeLorean”.  first, they debuted the cover art, but this week, they’ve given “secrets” behind the song.  if you missed out on those, follow them on social media!  (facebook / instagram; and as a quick side note, their social media accounts are great for fans, with weekly “margarita mondays” and such).  one of the secrets, for example, was that the song was written almost a year ago, but went through substantial changes as it was recorded, including changes to the prominent strings in the verses.  listen to the song below:

“DeLorean” is slick, right? a great pop song with a vocal and lyrical hook that is hard to shake. it feels cinematic, and you can imagine the story playing in your head you listen. of course the name here refers to the Back to the Future time machine, where our narrator longs to go back to the earlier days of a paired romance. it’s romantic, loving, and nostalgic. and if there’s not more music from Laini and the Wildfire immediately around the corner, i’ll find a DeLorean myself and jump forward to the next release.
