premiere: surprise! zebvlon have a new single, “oil’s dry”, and (also surprise!) a new ep that you can hear right now!

scientists and philosophers across the world have, for years now, postulated the existence of a great band.  this band, according to their math, would have the melancholic introspection and power-pop hooks of Pinkerton and the loud fuzz-and-drone of Corgan and Iha.  and on 4/21/2020 (that is today, dear reader), scientists finally discovered this mysterious force: it’s Zebvlon!  and chances are, if you have been to a local show in the past year, you’ve cracked this code long before those egg-headed scientists did.

Zebvlon released a brand new song today, “Oil’s Dry”.  the song comes as a surprise because (1) they just released a record less than half a year ago, and (2) it’s not actually just a song, it’s a full EP, my dudes.  yes: “Oil’s Dry” is not only the surprise single, it is also the surprise EP.  life comes at you fast.  we are super happy to premiere “Oil’s Dry” today because we’re big fans of Zeb.  check it out below!  it’s got everything you want.

about single, songwriter / engineer / singer / guitarist Zeb Mrowka says: “I wanted to do a maxi single for it like bands did in the ’90s. Hence, that’s the surprise EP. Bands need to do this more — singles are boring!!”

every Zebvlon release is different from the last: <333 was more overtly melodic and pop-centric than Vol. 1. Whispers and Echoes was louder and fuzzier than <333. and now Oil’s Dry pushes further into that new direction with an added emphasis on harmony. Shelby Talbot, who joined the band on vocals in 2019, and Zeb Mrowka perfectly complement one another. Oil’s Dry now enters part of the Zebuverse, alongside Royal Oaks (Mrowka plays drums and engineers), Blue Park Suites (drummer Jake Viramontez’s band), Shed Life (who Talbot has worked with) Fredo Disco, Number One Babe, Sydney’s Armour, and more.

here’s a quick commentary of the tracklist:
“Oil’s Dry” (come for the catchy hooks, stay for the surprise euphonium)
“Will 2 Live” (less than a minute long, take that “Stingie”)
“Antisocialsocialclub: The Squeakquel” (an updated version of the Vol. 1 favorite)
“Torn” (Natalie Imbruglia cover and bandcamp exclusive)

and if anyone is still reading this, Colin Sitz is one of my favorite bass players in CT. the dude always looks like he is straight vibing at the gig, and his bass lines are wonderfully harmonious and solid. he has impeccable timing. good job, Colin.
