this week marks a lot of big changes for the artist formerly known as “Storytaryn”. you may know her as a local ct musician, or a booking agent, or a scene stalwart, who is often found at the coolest gigs in town/the state. while retiring the “Storytaryn” label, she is relaunching with a new name (“Stripes”), new music (“You are a Gift”), and her first a cellar on treadwell booking (under the name “Not One Right Way”)!
let’s talk about the music first! while not an official release, “you are a gift” is a demo that Stripes uploaded to bandcamp this past weekend. the song is a tender, smart, self-aware ballad. combining the narration of a romantic comedy with vivid symbolism, you can witness the story unfold in your head, populated with people and places that may seem familiar to you when you last encountered them in a dream.
now, about the booking agency. Stripes is rebranding her booking agency to Not One Right Way. and hey, she’s already announced her first show! it’s at the cellar on treadwell in september, so that gives you plenty of time to prepare for the show with mike antoch, canyon, and cahill. if you haven’t been to the cellar on treadwell (previously it was the rough draft), it’s a cool place with food and beer, well-lit, and friendly.
