american amnesia have never been accused of taking a break: the torrington band have, since 2018, released an lp () and an ep (), and by the end of this week, they’ll have another full-length record under their belts.  they haven’t released many details about the album yet, but we do have a title and we do have a single!  dropping on 8/10 (this friday, folks), no time for redemption will mark american amnesia’s second full-length lp.  the first single, “depression.jpg”, is a slow, morose burner, but it’s just as hard and heavy as you would normally expect for the band.  check it out below!

the song features a lot of the things that i love about american amnesia: even though it’s brooding and gnarly, the band never loses track of a good melody. sam cesnak’s hard-hitting drums serve as a fake-out introduction to patrick nemaizer’s calm acoustic guitar. will wilson’s backing work brings the track together. i’ve always thought the band sounded like early alice in chains (facelift era), but this song’s simmering intensity feels almost more like a jerry cantrell solo cut. like “broken AC” from this year’s into the dark ep, “depression.jpg” is a perfect song to bring newcomers into the american amnesia fold. whether or not the awesome “rain” will be on no time for redemption is unclear, but if you haven’t seen that video yet: you’re in for a treat.
