arcadia change their sound in dramatic fashion with two new singles: “my friend” and “old friend”

hey it’s normal for bands to change their sound a bit — it happens!  it’s part of the natural evolution of songwriting!  but rarely do you see a band shift their sound as wildly as successfully as Arcadia has with their newest two-song single.  the new pair of tracks they’ve released, “My Friend” and “Old Friend” sets aside some of the fuzzy grunge that hallmarked recent songs (like those from Mr. Happy in 2019).  instead, Arcadia feature… piano?  wait, what?

“My Friend”, which is my favorite of the two, is a little like if Billy Corgan or Jerry Cantrell sang for Fiona Apple (let’s say the Extraordinary Machine era).  the band still have a grunge heart, but their musical clothes are entirely different.  this is pop music made by a heavy band, and it sounds like it — these songs have sharp teeth, even if they are quite catchy.  go ahead: take a listen and see what you think!  “My Friend” and “Old Friend” are out today on spotify, which you can find below.

arcadia is stephen derose (bass), chris theurer (guitar/vox), and tom barvick (drums)
