we haven’t updated our blog this week because we don’t have the appetite for it.  why, you ask?  dude, just turn on the television.  but as shitty as everything in the world is right now, there’s one reason to be excited!  today (june 5) is one of those special bandcamp.com days, where they waive their usual (small) platform fee, maximizing the cut that artists and bands get to pocket.  in previous months, these days serve to be a collective spotlight on independent artists — all of a sudden people are willing to spend money on music, like it’s the old days.  

this month, we’re trying something new.  instead of trotting out the big catalog of bands like we normally do, we have compiled a list featuring creators of color [in solidarity with the recent protests against institutionalized racism] and creators in the LGBTQ family [hey it’s pride month!].  a few notes: (1) this list is NOT exhaustive by any stretch, and if you let me know whose bandcamp page i missed, i would be enthusiastic to add them here!  (2) bandcamp skews towards “indie rock”, which is historically a very white hetero-cis-dominated demographic, so this list will not represent the diversity of the connecticut music scene — not even close.  and (3) this is certainly not meant to be used as a tool for gatekeeping — we see it as shining a light on voices that are often pushed aside and underserved (especially in online music circles like ctverses).
