Huge 17-band festival at the Psych Shack in Willimantic: Psych Shack 2021

Do you remember the last time Night Crew, Kim Normal, Litvar, Joey Soprano and Stattic, Chemical X, Nine AM, Ethan Hanzlik, T!LT, Quinn, Shed Life, Knuckle Deep, Curly, Montclair, The Human Fund, Jeff Butler, Beachblanket were all on the same bill?  Yeah, me neither!  The new and beloved Psych Shack in Willimantic will be hosting all of these acts in one day.  That’s right — it’s a whole dang festival!  August 14, mark your calendars.  This Saturday we get loud.

The shows start at 2PM, so swing by bright and early with friends or flying solo.  You can make friends while you’re there, or you can just kinda cross your arms and nod you head while you think about how terrifying it would be to be asked a question (you know the feeling).  Either way, it’s gonna be a great time.  Here’s what you can 100% expect:

  • Shawn from Night Crew will dive from the stage into the crowd.  Shawn will do this even if there’s only three people in attendance, so please let’s bump up those numbers for their safety.
  • Somebody will be wearing a “Kim Normal Is Dead” t-shirt.  It’ll probably be the bass player of Kim Normal.  Wear your own in solidarity.
  • Beachblanket will play some soft, gentle ska, and even though you’ve told your discord “I hate ska” last Tuesday night, you’ll actually vibe to this and get defensive about it.  Face it.  You love ska.
  • You’ll ask your friend during the Montclair set: “wait a second, that’s Dream Hermit??”
  • Jeff Butler will pull out a mandolin or banjo and some dude who has been quiet this whole time will say “YEAAAAAA I love ukeleles”.
  • Quinn will have Grade A stage banter.  The quip right before “Rugrats” will be especially sharp.
  • One of the members of T!LT will be shirtless, but all of them will be wearing sunglasses.
  • Someone will cover a Frank Ocean song and start it with “you can sing along with this one if you know it.”

And if you’re being especially health-conscious, the festival will be outdoors, just like the Psych Shack shows from earlier in the summer.  The early-bird tickets from the Psych Shack website are only $20, which is like… less than $2 a band.  I just saw an advertisement at Stop & Shop for three corns on sale for $2.  Would you trade 3 corns to see a band you love?  I would.
