coming off of 2018’s rock-n-roll throwback smiles for miles, dumlords is already back with a new single. this track, “i want u”, is to my ears, a little more folky. i get serious father john misty vibes here — and to be clear, i mean the tuneful fear fun or i love you honeybear records, not the hyper-self-conscious pure comedy. tyler smith’s voice carries a melody that you’ll want to sing along with, and i’m especially enamored with the rhythm section here: the stomping drums and chunky bass. that rhythm provides a great counterpoint to smith’s voice and the earthy electric guitar. and the piano? just enough to taste, but doesn’t overpower the dish. *chef’s kiss* check out the song below.
